I suspect if Lord Huron’s “Time to Run” was released at the beginning of the summer, the song would have ended up as my summer jam. It’s an infectiously upbeat tune, the kind of song you put on repeat while driving to the beach, the kind of song your friends and family get sick of because you’ve overplayed it.
Having the song come out in August still gives it time to be played in that context, but it also has a wisp of something else — the regrettable end of summer and changing into autumn. The song even plays out as such, with a tonal shift about three minutes into it. You can almost feel the joyousness slowly leaking from the music.
Lord Huron’s new album, Lonesome Dreams, is available everywhere October 9, 2012.
